Laughter is said to be medicine for the soul. I can by no means confirm that, but it sure makes me feel better.
And who makes you laugh more than a stand up comedian? Maybe one of those “try not to laugh” challenge videos on the internet, but they are REALLY hard to compete with!
I love stand up comedy! Unfortunately I’ve only ever seen one show live, but I’ll get back to that later. There are many many different kinds of stand up comedians, but most are story tellers, and that’s what I prefer. Yes, a short joke can be funny, but in the long run the funny stories stick with you and they are still funny when you hear them for the 2nd or the 3rd time.
At one point in my life, I considered becoming a comedian myself, but there is one big obstacle in my way: My performance anxiety, which I’ll be talking in a different post.
Because I’m Danish, it’s natural for me to love Danish stand up comedy. Stand up comedians tend to draw a lot of inspiration from the history, politics, and people of their country. Because of this, I find it easier to understand the humor on the Danish comedy scene than for example the British one. However, there is one British comedian in particular, whose jokes and sense of humor I still get, and that’s Jack Whitehall.
Remember I said I’d only ever been to one live show? That was Jack Whitehall At Large in Liverpool Echo Arena on the 5th of February 2017. It was fantastic! I love his shows! The humor, the scenery, the gimmicks, the theatricals. I love it all! His first two shows, Jack Whitehall Live and Jack Whitehall Gets Around, are both on the UK Netflix, so if you get the opportunity, I suggest you go see them! And here’s something to look forward to: Right now he is shooting a traveling series with his dad in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam for Netflix, and I’m sure it will be epic. I for one cannot wait to see it!
An american comedian I really enjoy is Gabriel Iglesias, aka Fluffy. He is a very talented american comedian. He’s sweet, he’s funny, he’s fluffy. He has the whole package!
I want to keep this post short, but I also want to end it with a question: Who is your favorite comedian and why? I’ll look forward to reading your comments. Bye!
