The Cinema

I love watching films in almost every way possible, but my favorite method will forever be going to the cinema – preferably an empty one, but that rarely happens.

So why do I love the cinema so much? Well, first of all it’s the complete immersion into the film on the screen. I can completely forget the world around me and become part of this other world for a period of time. (Some might say that I’m trying to escape reality… And tbh, they’d be absolutely right, but more on that in another post).

When I watch a good film, I completely forget the world around me. I am so focused on the film that sometimes I forget I’m not alone… Which has resulted in me loudly sniffling to Moana to the annoyance of the others in the cinema… Oops…

This complete concentraion on the film makes it a really bad idea to take me on a date to the cinema – Trust me, I’ve tried it and it didn’t end well…

*Cough* back to the original subject: I truly enjoy going to the cinema, and I do so several times a week, however, I do have some things to say to my fellow cinema-goers: Some of you are very loud and have very little respect for the people sitting in front of you! Whew, sorry, I just had to get that off my chest.

And don’t get me wrong; it’s not that I don’t like them as individual people, but I don’t know them and can thus only judge them based on their actions, and some of the things they do simply make me want to throw my drink in their faces. Let me list some of these up for you:

  • Loud eating/drinking.
  • Kicking my seat.
  • Checking their phone in the middle on the film (especially with the screen light turned all the way up!).
  • Being late/having to get up in the middle of the movie and having to bother me to get to their seat.

I’m sure you can agree with me on at least one or two of these points. Admittedly, I sometimes do these things as well, and I’m not trying to make myself sound like a complete saint, ’cause I’m not! (E.g. crying to Moana).

If I could afford a home cinema system, I would buy one. Buuuut I can’t. Maybe one of you can buy me one? No? Oh well… One can always hope. Maybe I should start playing the lottery…

Anyways, cinemas are great, and something even greater is a Cineworld membership. We don’t have something like that in Denmark (as far as I know), so being able to see as many 2D films as I want for only £17,40 a month is amazing! This gives me a reason and an excuse to watch pretty much every film at least once and often I end up watching my favorite ones twice.

If you love going to the cinema but don’t want to go by yourself, I have a piece of advice for you: Do it anyway!

It’s a whole different cinema experience when you don’t have 20% of your attention on the person next to you. You won’t regret it. And don’t worry about what other people think. We are quite many, who go by ourselves. And who knows – you might make a few new friends along the way.

  1. Couldn’t agree more ! Going to the cinema is a whole new experience than just watching the movies at home, that’s why I always try to go. Nice post ! 🙂
